CIMB Bank recently presented over RM150,000 for Daybreak’s Nursery Project for the second phase of the plant nursery training programme in aid of people with disabilities. The fund was used to upgrade the facilities at our plant nursery. “It will include installing a semi-auto irrigation system and composting shed, constructing a deep well tube and concrete water tank as well as painting the nursery,” said Daybreak’s Executive Chairperson, Puan Sri Dato’ Sandra Lee. She added that trainees were taught to handle gardening equipment as part of their continuous training and development programme to prepare them in handling comparable model when being employed. “We are teaching them to be independent, improve life skills, build confidence and make friends. Over the past 19 years, our trainees have been recruited as tailors, factory workers and cleaners,” she said.
CIMB Bank Executive Director, Dato’ Sulaiman Mohd. Tahir said the CIMB Group Community Link Programme has been involved in over 495 initiatives nationwide, contributing over RM22.7 million to various projects which include environmental protection and health care services. “Our group has targeted 150 projects amounting to RM7.5 million to help the less fortunate this year,” he elaborated. The CIMB Bank is serious in its Corporate Social Responsibility initiatives. Their bank staff actively participate in these philanthropic activities. A point to note is that CIMB Group has won The Prime Minister’s Corporate Social Responsibility Award twice so far.
Also present were CIMB Bank Regional Director Encik Ismail Mohammad Kassim and Area Retail Manager, Mr. Max Choo, Daybreak Chairman, Mr. Siu Tack Chuan and Perak Social Welfare Department Deputy Director 1, Encik Mohd. Nasir bin Suratman.
Guests were later taken on a tour of the centre to observe trainees at work as well as to the plant nursery.
